About Bex

Dancer   Teacher   Choreographer

I grew up on a farm in Taranaki

and fell in love with making art, dancing and performing locally with the Val Deakin Dance Theatre. After completing high school, I moved to New York with the intention to pursue a career in ballet. There I trained with New York Theatre Ballet and had several opportunities to perform with the company before heading to Europe.

In Stockholm I had the privilege to work with friend and choreographer

Pontus Lidberg early in his career. My time with him both in and out of the studio and on his film sets has had a profound influence on me artistically to this day. It created opportunities to return to New York and explore movement and choreography through a contemporary ballet lens.

I taught my first ballet class in Stockholm

in 2007. This developed into a passion for both teaching and coaching and expanded from ballet into Pilates and yoga and later contemporary dance. The practice of yoga has been part of my life for 15 years and has been integrated into my way of life, my own movement practices as well as my teaching.

After several years in both Berlin and Melbourne further exploring contemporary dance technique and improvisation I am now in Nelson Tasman close to family and enjoying the natural beauty of this country. I will begin to offer creatively informed dance classes in the local community from the beginning of 2026.
